Plant Alkaloid for Dependency Treatment?

Ibogaine is a naturally occurring plant alkaloid found in the root bark of a shrub called Tabernanthe Iboga that grows in the forests of West Africa. It is a potent psychoactive substance that has the unique property of significantly removing withdrawal symptoms and reducing cravings from substances that cause chemical dependence. It has a long history of being used traditionally as a ceremonial, medicinal and spiritual tool in West Africa. For the last 40 years, it has increasingly been used in western society as a unique therapy for detoxification from drugs and for other psychotherapeutic purposes.

The Iboga Therapy House is a non-profit organization dedicated to exploring and facilitating the therapeutic use of ibogaine, offering a holistic, ibogaine-based detoxification program to help facilitate recovery from dependence to chemical substances as well as a setting for personal psychotherapeutic explorations.

Treatment Doesn't Work?

An interesting report came out several years ago by the Baldwin Research Institute, Inc., stating that:

"Treatment in the United States has been spreading disinformation so detrimental to their cliental that most never recover.

When Gerald Brown published the Baldwin Research Project of 1991 he was viewed as a maverick in the industry but persevered through adversity to co-develop an effective substance abuse program with a success rate 12 times as effective as current treatment methodologies; a success rate of 84%."

Treatment Website

I've just discovered a new site that looks like a comprehensive resource for treatment centers as well as holistic healing. It's a national directory, which seems to have a good search engine with links to websites by zipcode:
